The cast iron trestle bench of the Assendon Millwright range is a wonderful alternative to chairs. It will naturally age when left outside with mild superficial rust and oxidation, adding to it's industrial appearance and look of authenticity
If you are ordering this with the Assendon Table the length of the bench would normally be the same length as the table to maximise the seating.
The high grade Norwegian Spruce timber will withstand years of seasonable European weather, without further preservation, and will improve with age, going from a light green shade when new, to a deeper natural wood colour and then a silvery grey of characterful old time worn timber after a year of two. Similarly, the natural cast iron legs will show surface rust, not affecting their use or longevity, but adding to their charm.

The Norwegian Spruce timber used is high grade chosen for its lovely aesthetic wide beam design, setting it apart from run of the mill. The tanalised wood initially has a green tinge to it, is not kiln dried and so subject to slight movement, colour change and minor cracking. This rustic finish and settlement is considered part of its charm & character, so over time the timber will naturally dry out, move a little and turn a silvery grey.
Tanalised wood is durable and lasts for many years exposed to the elements, it is pressure treated to protect against fungal decay and insect attack.
The natural cast iron legs will develop a rusty patina. This will not affect their use or longevity. We think this natural process adds to their charm. If this is something that concerns you, then enquire about getting the cast iron powder coated prior to ordering.
Please note: due to the nature of the materials if you are looking for outdoor furniture with a less rustic finish, we would recommend the Busgrove Outdoor Oak collection.
The tanalised wood will naturally last for many years unprotected. However, to prolong the original honey colour of your timber or for further protection you can apply a cover or your choice of preservatives, treatments, stains or paint by following the manufactures instruction at your discretion.
